THE CLUB

CREST

The crest, like the flag and jersey, are the most important symbols of our club. They are the identity of a history that has waved its colors for more than one hundred years in all the corners of the world.

Throughout the history of Club Atletico Boca Juniors are five different crest designs. The first was created in 1922 and used until 1955. It had a white background with yellow horizontal stripe and the initials CABJ were written in yellow and blue. In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the club, the crest was changed to marine blue with a yellow stripe across the middle, the club initials written in black. Two laurel branches were added on both sides.

During the 1960’s the laurel branches disappeared, and a black contour line was added around the perimeter of the crest. The initials were replaced by the team name, Boca Juniors.

In 1970 the crest was re-designed based on the 1950’s style (but without the laurels). The black perimeter line was kept and the shield once again read the team’s initials. Twenty stars were added to the blue background, representing the twenty titles obtained. The stars include one for 1932 when Boca, during the Executive Committee meeting on the 18th of October of that year, decided that “the flag and shield should include one star for each championship won by the institution, and for the sporting successes that equal their significance, above the central stripe, in official and permanent fashion.”

Additionally, the club statue indicated that all members of the Assembly of Representatives must approve the addition of each new star to be incorporated into the crest.

In the second half of 1996 the last modification of the crest was made by the designer named Shakespeare, who removed the yellow stripe and used the college font to write the clubs’ initials, which has since been adopted permanently by the club.
