Boca Juniors tied 2-2 against Mexican side Atlas at Vélez stadium in the first-leg match for the Libertadores Cup quarter-finals.
After starting 0-1, our team evened the score with an own goal scored by Hugo Ayala after a great play on the right wing engineered by Vargas, Riquelme and Palacio.
In the 30th minute of the second half, Cáceres scored the 2-1 goal. It was a long cross by Dátolo from the left wing: Palermo headed the ball towards the Paraguayan defender, who fired a powerful shot past goalkeeper Bava.
Xeneizes attacked through the wings during the whole match thanks to Palacio's and Dátolo's speed. Despite lacking accuracy to finish the attacks, the champions recovered after the first twenty minutes and started to dominate the action.
Before the 1-1 equalizer, Palacio had a great chance with a wide shot that barely missed the right post. Whereas Dátolo dribbled past two opponents into the box only to fail to finish in time.
Once they set their mind to it and got into a good game flow, Boca started to worry the Mexican side. And even more when Riquelme managed to show some flashes of his talent and magic.
It was in the second half when our team showed more ambition and commitment to win by many goals. They just lacked good finishing.
The second-leg match will be held in seven days in Guadalajara, where there will be no margin for error. It will be a very difficult test. Just as the ones Xeneizes like the most and feel more comfortable in.-
